Genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation heritability, expected genetic advance, correlation and path analysis for yield and yield contributing traits were estimated using 27 accessions of pigeonpea. Moderate to high PCV and GCV were recorded for number of pods, seed yield per plant, plant height and plant spread. High heritability with high genetic advance as % of mean was observed for number of pods, primary and secondary branches per plant, test weight, plant height and plant spread. Days to 50% flowering, plant spread, primary and secondary branches per plant, number of pods and raceme length had moderate to low direct effect and its true relationship of these traits with grain yield. Hence, direct selection for these traits would be rewarding for yield improvement in pigeonpea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
