The acquisition of English final Cfricative Cplosive and plosive plosive sequences by Southern Brazilian Portuguese speakers: an Optimality-Theoretical analysis. (English)

This study presents an Optimality-Theoretical analysis of the acquisition of English final Cfric Cplos and Cplos Cplos sequences by Southern Brazilian Portuguese speakers. The analysis of the learners' developmental stages followed the principles of the Gradual Learning Algorithm (BOERSMA & HAYES, 2001). Special attention was also given to the formalization of markedness constraints. In order to derive constraints from harmonic scales, we relied on two constraint schemas: Harmonic Alignment and Local Constraint Conjunction. We believe that our analysis may prove relevant not only to the field of language acquisition, but also to the study of formal models of grammar, such as Optimality Theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Este trabalho apresenta urna análise, via Teoria da Otimidade, do processo de aquisicão das sequências finais Cfric Cplos e Cplos Cplos do inglês por falantes do sul do Brasil. A trajetória de aquisicäo dos aprendizes foi tracada corn base no Algoritmo de Aprendizagern Gradual (BOERSMA & HAYES, 2001). Especial atencào foi dada, ao longo da análise, a questao da formalizacão das restricões de marcação. Para obtermos as restricôes por meio de escalas linguIsticas primitivas, recorremos a dois mecanismos: Alinhamento Harmônico e ConjunçAo Local. Acreditamos que a análise desenvolvida se caracteriza corno pertinente nâo somente para os pesquisadores voltados a investigacão do processo de aquisicão de linguagem, mas também para todos aqueles envolvidos com o estudo de modelos formais de análise linguística, tat como a Teoria da Otimidade.
