The results of a comparative study conducted by a team of experts in Quebec, Switzerland, and France examined the commonly accepted definition of 'violent students' and assumptions about the role of teachers in school violence. This examination of violent teens' psychology questioned whether violent students may have been victims of verbal and other abuse by educators. When the project explored teacher/student relationships using intensive communications workshops where violence was debated, aggressive behaviour decreased. Tools were also developed to measure the growing level of empathy in students as a valid indicator for behavioural change and efficient violence prevention, and that with relevant training combining instruction and socialization, teachers can help prevent school violence and defeat school failure.
