The article reports on the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and informants. Vincent A. Spondello worked for the precious metals dealer Monex and was paid to destroy corporate documents, however, he saved some 25 boxes of documents and gave them to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) which may pay him an estimated $57 million as Monex might have avoided $378 million in taxes. In 2006 U.S. Congress had the IRS paying informants no less than 15% of penalties and interest collected in tax cases.
