Developing a Sustainable Research Program for Tenure.

The article focuses on researchers at predominately undergraduate institutions (PUIs) and offers nine suggestions for developing a sustainable, long-term research program for tenure which is also applicable to faculty at a range of institutions. It is also designed to develop life-long practices that will enable them to be productive throughout their careers. It notes that the long-term success at a PUI depends on how well a faculty member negotiates the transition from the research-intensive environment of doctoral and postdoctoral training. It also suggests that it is important for the faculty to schedule time for research, find a good mentor and understand students.
