The article presents a guide to stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) management. A stroke is the result of a blood clot or a bleed affecting the brain. The signs and symptoms of a stroke will depend on the part of the brain affected, and how much brain tissue has been damaged. It is vital to identify from a brain scan the cause of the stroke, such as ischaemia or bleeding. Ischaemic stroke is the result of atheroma development in the cerebral or carotid arteries.
