An uneasy peace.

This editorial discusses the position of the Great Britain Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), which deals with funding for scientific research. Tensions between research scientists and the STFC over the withdrawal of funding from the International Linear Collider particle accelerator project and the development of the Gemini Observatory astronomical research facility are noted. Efforts to increase the transparency of the STFC funding process are described.
