The article focuses on an independent study published by the Ponemon Institute, a research organization specializing in privacy and computer security, about information security and portable electronic devices. According to the study, more than 85 percent of U.S. businesses have been involved in a data security breach to some degree within 2006 to 2008. The study also indicated that almost half, 49 percent, of those breaches were the result of a misplaced or stolen laptop computer or USB memory bus.
