The use of computer networks to support e-learning processes is steadily growing and researchers have for some years now been studying, devising and experimenting with a number of educational approaches. At times these computer networks are used as large scale distribution channels for learning materials structured for self-study, at others as a virtual space for collaborative learning communities organized into virtual classes or into communities of practice. On this point, this article tries to highlight the main factors that can affect the overall quality of e-learning, looking in depth especially at the aspects related to teaching quality.
