The article presents information on the paper "Cellular and Dynamic Aspects of Oocyte Growth in Teleosts," by Robin A. Wallace and Kelly Selman, to be published in the May 1981 issue of "American Zoologist." The paper reviews some of the salient features of egg formation in teleosts. During gonadotropin-independent primary growth, multiple nucleoli and lampbrush chromosomes form, and both then persist throughout oocyte growth. Extensive aggregations of basophilic and electron-dense material also accumulate in the perinuclear cytoplasm and frequently serve as a focal point for aggregates of cytoplasmic organelles. It is stated that for those teleosts with asynchronous ovaries, recruitment occurs among all stages as a continuous process during the breeding season.
