The article states that Internet access has been restricted at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai (formerly Bombay). The dean of student affairs, Prakash Gopalan, comments on concern about Internet addiction, social isolation, and a decline in grades among the engineering and technology students. Of the institute's 5,200 students, it is estimated that there are 150 "hard-core" and 800 "borderline" Internet addicts. The seven Indian Institutes of Technology have very competitive admission standards as well as heavy workloads. Two suicides have occurred at the Mumbai Institute.
