This article focuses on the annual report on the Economic Status of the Profession, which focused on financial inequality in U.S. higher education. Several observations discussed in this report included increasing differences between the endowments of rich and poor institutions, between the salaries of college and university presidents and their faculties, between the salaries of athletic coaches and professors, and between well-and poorly compensated faculty members. Higher education in the U.S. is characterized by tremendous institutional diversity. Colleges and universities are described in two ways: by category and by affiliation.
