How Safe is Our Food?

The article focuses on the difficulty of managing and preventing foodborne illness due to lack of adequate research. The symptoms of such illness are given, including stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. In spite of the remarkable success in controlling many foodborne diseases of the past, several recent factors have combined to create major new challenges, such as increases in world food trade, which make food safety a major public health issue in Canada.
