      The article discusses the author's experience as a member of the Rock Hill School Board in South Carolina in 2002. A third high school was planned to be built to accommodate the increasing number of students in the district. The division of school boundaries was a concern due to multiple-generation families who wanted to preserve tradition by going to the same school. The choice of location for the new high school was an issue and many families were upset about the final decision and the changes in their lives but in the long term turned out to be the wiser decision. In decision making and evaluations, he formed a management advisory group and held public hearings, public focus sessions and board work sessions before deciding on a plan.
