The article discusses on the uses of bisphenol A (BPA) in dental medicine. The substance is one of the component in making resin-based dental composites and sealants. In a study conducted, it was revealed that sealants, which has the presence of BPA, are still a safe means in the prevention of dental cavities in human. According to researchers, the baseline BPA of the patient came form the background exposures from environmental sources such as water and food packaging. Furthermore, point-source exposure from dental sealants might approach levels that induce health effects in rodents while exposure to BPA from dental sealants is already variable and short-lived in the body.
