      The article presents information about teenagers who dropped out of school or were about to do so in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indianapolis public school district with 38,000 students is transforming its assessments and curricula, improving teacher's training, and breaking its high schools into small learning communities to prepare young people for work or college. The graduation rate of the district is improving, but as per political leaders it is still very low. They know that the customary way of calculating the rate does not show the real dropout picture.
