The article reports on the results of the study on the carcinogenic effect of aspartame. Research shows that the potential carcinogenic effects of aspartame were evident at daily doses as low as 20 milligrams per kilogram body weight (mg/kg). The dosage is less than the acceptable daily intake in the U.S. and in Europe, which is 2-3 mg/kg. Since, the study did not take into account in utero and perinatal exposures, the author recommends the chemical's potential cancer effects deserve a thorough study.
