The article focuses on the construction industry in the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) as of January 2006. Across the region, immense sums of money are being poured into real estate and other projects, as private developers invest the windfalls of soaring oil prices into tourism, retail, office and residential projects. GCC governments are also driving construction activity, ploughing record budget surpluses into the construction of power, water, transport and housing schemes.
