This article examines the political rights of minorities in Turkey. Political parties in Turkey are established in a systematic way and justify repressive measures rather than preventive. However, the pattern of dissolution of political parties is not limited to the minority political parties. Take for example the United Communist Party of Turkey (UCP) which was founded on June 4, 1990. Ten days after its establishment the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic applied to the Constitutional Court for an order to dissolve the UCP. The same procedure was applied with the Freedom and Democracy Party, which was founded on October 19, 1992 and was dissolved on January 29, 1993. Besides the relevant principles of minority rights, Turkey has yet to guarantee effective participation of its people including minorities in the country's political life.
