      The article reports that the inflammatory response triggered in human lung cells by the H5N1 avian influenza virus is more than 10 times as powerful as that triggered by the human influenza A virus, according to Chinese and Vietnamese researchers. The researchers said this increased inflammatory response might contribute to the severe effects of the disease in humans. Other research has suggested it may be possible to halve the dose of oseltamivir to treat patients infected with a pandemic flu virus by giving them a second drug that stops oseltamivir being excreted in their urine.
