Independent Nurse: Opinion - Cuts in services are bad for our patients.

The article focuses on the nursing profession in Great Britain. There were huge difficulties in recruiting nurses into the profession some time back. In the last few weeks, people heard about nursing jobs being frozen and cuts in services so organisations can balance their books. This roller coaster approach to the nursing workforce is alarming and not in the best interests of patients. The modernisation of the National Health Services (NHS) needs skilled nurses at all levels. One must not underestimate the value of their knowledge and expertise. Each professional group within nursing is concerned that their services may be cut, but the author in this article believes that the country needs all the nurses and midwives to ensure the NHS meets patients' needs. They should stick together and argue this point as a profession.
