The article reports on the highlights of the results of National Bureau of Economic Research Inc. economist Dennis C. McCornac's study of teenage vehicle mortality rates in the 1979-1975 period when states acted to lower the drinking age to 18. The study showed that had the minimum drinking age in all states been 21 during the period, over 700 teenage lives would not have been lost. McCornac concluded that lowering the drinking age increases vehicular mortality rates among teenagers.
