      This article presents information on New York-based Alfred University's new cooking classes. The town of Alfred's firefighters, whose members include many professors and administrators, responded to a "marked increase" in calls to the campus last year because students burned so many bags of microwave popcorn. The university had just synchronized its dormitories' fire alarms with the town's system. Jessica A. Cabrera, a sophomore who founded TasteBuds, a club that promotes multicultural cuisine at Alfred, says that some of her classmates could benefit from a rudimentary cooking course.
