THE IMPERIAL CULT OF CAESAREA IN CAPPADOCIA DURING THE SEVERAN PERIOD IN THE LIGHT OF COINS.

Caesarea is a very important city in the east of the Roman Empire. The city mints local bronze coins as well as silver coins. Moreover, it has a strategic position in eastern politics. During the reign of Septimius Severus and his successors, also known as the Severan, there was a movement in the types of Caesarean coins. The reason for this is that the city received the title of neokoros twice during this period. It is also thought that Caesarea coins were used to pay Roman soldiers. This increases the importance of coin typology. Getting the support of the Roman soldiers was a very important situation for the emperors. For this reason, Severan Dynasty propaganda can be seen on Caesarea coins. During periods when the Pathian threat increased, coins emphasizing the power of the Roman soldier were minted. The city of Caesarea, which previously minted coins in the local typology, minted coins containing imperial politics and propaganda during the Severan period. In this article, the typology of Caesarea coins minted by the emperors of the Severan Period was evaluated by considering each emperors eparately. As a result of this evaluation, it will be examined how Caesarea coinage was affected by Roman politics and the increasing importance of the imperial cult in this period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kaisareia kenti Roma İmparatorluğu’nun doğusunda oldukça önemli bir kenttir. Kent yerel bronz sikkelerin yanı sıra gümüş sikkeler de basmaktadır. Bununla birlikte doğu siyasetinde stratejik bir konuma sahiptir. Severuslar olarak adlandırılan Septimius Severus ve ardılları döneminde Kaisareia sikkelerinin tiplerinde bir hareketlilik yaşanmıştır. Bunun nedeni bu dönemde kentin iki defa neokoros unvanı almasıdır. Aynı zamanda Kaisareia sikkelerinin Roma askerlerine ödeme amaçlı kullanıldığı düşünülmektedir. Bu sikke tipolojisinin önemini arttırmaktadır. Roma askerinin desteğini almak imparatorlar için oldukça önemli bir durumdur. Bu nedenle Kaisareia sikkeleri üzerinde Severus Hanedanı propagandası görülmektedir. Parth tehlikesinin arttığı dönemlerde ise Roma askerinin gücünü vurgulan sikkeler basılmıştır. Daha öncesinde yerel tipolojide sikke basan Kaisareia kenti Severuslar Dönemi ile imparatorluk siyaseti ve propagandasını içeren sikkeler basmıştır. Bu makalede Severuslar Dönemi imparatorlarının bastırdığı Kaisareia kenti sikkelerinin tipolojisi her bir imparator ayrı ayrı ele alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu değerlendirme sonucu Kaisareia sikke basımının Roma siyasetinden ne kadar etkilendiği ve imparatorluk kültünün bu dönemde öneminin artması üzerine incelemelerde bulunulacaktır.
