Finland has proposed that a new NATO land command unit be located in the town of Mikkeli in southeastern Finland. The unit, known as a multi-corps land-component command, would be responsible for planning, preparing, and commanding NATO land forces in northern Europe. It would be staffed by allies and the Finnish defense forces and would oversee NATO exercises and other peacetime activities in the region. In times of crisis, the unit would command NATO's land force operations in its area. It is worth noting that Finland joined NATO in April 2023 and currently houses the Finnish Army Command in Mikkeli. [Extracted from the article]
