Umbanda in Argentina: Transnationalization and Cultural Translation.

In the context of Latin American religious transnationalization, this article investigates the presence of Afro-Brazilian religions in Argentina. It is based on the concept of cultural translation, developed by Stuart Hall, seeking to understand certain aspects of the complex of transmutations and resistances operated by such religions in that country. In the key of cultural translation, it also establishes parallels between Argentine and Brazilian Umbanda religious entities. The method used in this research was the bibliographic. No contexto da transnacionalização religiosa latino-americana, este artigo investiga a presença das religiões afro-brasileiras na Argentina. Fundamenta-se, para tanto, no conceito de tradução cultural, desenvolvido por Stuart Hall, procurando compreender certas faces do complexo de transmutações e resistências operadas por tais religiões naquele país. Na chave da tradução cultural, estabelece, também, paralelos entre entidades religiosas da Umbanda argentina e brasileira. O método empregado, na consecução desta pesquisa, foi o bibliográfico.
