A federal judge in Los Angeles has ordered Low Taek Jho, the alleged mastermind behind the looting of Malaysia's 1MDB fund, to forfeit a 7.35 carat diamond ring and matching diamond earrings that he bought for his mother. The judge ruled that these diamonds, valued at $1.17 million and $628,000 respectively, were purchased using funds from the Malaysian fund. The diamonds were created by renowned designer Lorraine Schwartz, who also made a $23 million necklace for the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. Low, who remains a fugitive, reached a deal in June to return over $100 million of assets acquired using 1MDB funds. In a related case, a former lawyer for 1MDB, Jasmine Loo, was also ordered to forfeit a Pablo Picasso pencil sketch and surrender $25,000 held in a Swiss bank account. [Extracted from the article]
