The Tchimpounga Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of the Congo is working to protect chimpanzee populations that are in danger due to deforestation and the illegal wildlife trade. The center, part of the Jane Goodall Institute, rescues and socializes chimps, helping them learn chimp behavior. The sanctuary has expanded over the years and now houses around 150 chimps, preparing them for a possible return to the wild. Efforts to reduce illegal trade in animals and provide support to local communities are also being made.
