Throughout human history, discoveries and inventions have been inventions. That has significantly changed social processes and structures. The Agricultural Revolution and the Industrial Revolution created agrarian and industrial societies, respectively. We are now in another such era caused by information and communication technology (ICT). As the creation, access, processing, and distribution of information becomes faster and easier, society shapes these processes so much that it is known as the information society. Participating in this society requires developing new skills and being aware of the ways in which these procedures impact equity and justice in society. It falls under the purview of education system to respond to this by bringing into school education an understanding of ICT, the effects of ICT and society, the possibilities of learning through ICT, and concurrently building skills in pupils who get ready for it. Functioning and sensitive in a society shaped by ICT. Knowledge is not new to men; communication has been called since man lived in caves. Information and communication technology is therefore as old as man himself before the invention of language, people had to speak with one another, starting with symbolic (non-verbal) ways. The language we speak can be considered the first, ICT it enables (oral) communication between people. Writing and scripting was the next technological advance - about 5,000 years ago - that allowed the creation and transfer of information in different times and places. Oral communication lacks this benefit, writing also made it possible to record human history more easily and thus the invention of writing was a landmark in the history of ICT. Then came printing, which made reproduction possible. The invention of radio and television was the next step forward in information and communication technology as more and more people gained access to information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
