THE EMPIRE DOESN'T STRIKE BACK. PROPAGANDA AND CARTOON IN GERMANY (1939-1945). (English)

In contrast to the war scene, where it unleashed hostilities and maintained the initiative on several fronts at the same time, the National Socialist regime was hardly able to match the Allied countries in the political use of animation, despite the exceptional importance it attached to propaganda. In view of this failure, the article explores the causal framework and delves into a field of forces where institutions compete with companies and talented figures with opportunists in the development of films of very uneven tone and quality that quickly fell into oblivion but which, given their documentary value, should be taken into account in the general framework of the history of animation. A diferencia de lo sucedido en el escenario bélico, donde desató las hostilidades y mantuvo la iniciativa en varios frentes a la vez, el régimen nacionalsocialista apenas si pudo equipararse a los países aliados en el uso político de la animación a pesar de conceder a la propaganda una importancia excepcional. A la vista de este fracaso, el artículo indaga su marco causal y se adentra para ello en un campo de fuerzas donde instituciones rivalizan con empresas y figuras de talento con oportunistas en la gestación de filmes de tono y calidad muy desigual que rápidamente cayeron en el olvido pero que, dado su valor documental, conviene tomar en cuenta en el marco general de la historia de la animación.
