SEPSIS: THE RELEVANCE OF THE ROLE OF NURSING IN EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT.

Sepsis is characterized as a systemic inflammatory response triggered by inflammatory mediators in response to microbial agents or toxins. Its acute course often rapidly progresses to septic shock and multiorgan dysfunction, thus highlighting the urgency in addressing this complex and potentially fatal condition. Therefore, the aim of the study was to address the relevance of nursing's role in the early identification and treatment of sepsis. The study method consisted of an integrative literature review carried out in the databases Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PUBMED), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Sciences of Health (LILACS) and Web of Science (WoS), during the month of January 2024. The study reinforced the importance of the nursing team in the early identification and treatment of sepsis, contributing to the improvement of clinical results and the reduction of mortality associated with this condition. Therefore, by recognizing nursing as a key player in the multidisciplinary approach to sepsis, this study highlights the need for continuous investments in education and training to enable the nursing team to perform their role even more effectively. A sepse é caracterizada como uma resposta inflamatória sistêmica desencadeada pelos mediadores inflamatórios em resposta a agentes microbianos ou toxinas. Seu curso agudo, muitas vezes evolui rapidamente para choque séptico e disfunção multiorgânica, destacando assim, a urgência em abordar essa condição complexa e potencialmente fatal. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com o estudo abordar acerca da relevância do papel da enfermagem na identificação e tratamento precoce da sepse. O método do estudo consistiu em uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nas bases de dados Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PUBMED), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Web of Science (WoS), durante o mês de janeiro de 2024. O estudo reforçou a importância da equipe de enfermagem na identificação e tratamento precoce da sepse, contribuindo para a melhoria dos resultados clínicos e para a redução da mortalidade associada a essa condição. Desse modo, ao reconhecer a enfermagem como peça-chave na abordagem multidisciplinar da sepse, este estudo ressaltou a necessidade de investimentos contínuos em educação e treinamento para capacitar a equipe de enfermagem a desempenhar seu papel de forma ainda mais eficaz.
