      The article reports that executives at Banco Popular SA, which opened its first U.S. branch in the Bronx in 1961, love launching financial products in the borough — and not just for sentimental reasons. Bronx consumers greet Banco with a fervor the bank sees nowhere else in the city. The bank's Totally Free Checking service generated 3,500 new accounts in the borough this year. Banco, with five branches, aims to expand locations and offer increasingly sophisticated investment products. Banks are starting to look for where the demand is strongest, where they can locate branches in order to make the most money.
