THE TRANSLATIONS OF ZOLA IN PORTUGAL AND ROMANIA: SIMILARITIES AND ASYMMETRIES. (English)

As part of the study of naturalism in the world, a systematic and extensive research of Zola's translations could provide essential data to identify naturalist transfers and the specificity of literary and cultural transmission in each linguistic and cultural domain. In this article we start from the quantitative analysis of Zola's translations in Portugal and Romania to try to identify the socio-political, literary and cultural contexts which frame the translations of his literary works in these two countries. Our goal is to identify the similarities and asymmetries highlighted by a study of comparative literary reception, which illustrates the complexity of naturalism on its international expansion.
