This article discusses the efforts of TDR (Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) to strengthen research capacity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). TDR has been providing support since the 1970s to train individuals and institutions in LMICs to find solutions to health problems prevalent in these countries. TDR's approach includes training support for individuals and collaborative research programs for institutions. The article also highlights the impact of TDR's support, such as the creation of institutions and the development of networks and centers of excellence. The program recognizes the challenges faced by scientists in LMICs, such as limited time for research due to teaching responsibilities, and aims to address these challenges through various initiatives. TDR is also focusing on research that responds to public health needs and is relevant to national priorities. The program acknowledges the need for increased support for individuals, the development of leadership skills, and the establishment of broader networks and linkages for researchers. Overall, TDR aims to strengthen research capacity in LMICs by providing funding, training, and support to scientists and institutions. [Extracted from the article]
