Birds of Sarobetsu Moor, Northern Hokkaido in 1961.

Birds were surveyed in Sarobetsu Moor, northern Hokkaido in late June and early July 1961. A total of 26 bird species was recorded in the moor. In central part of the moor dominated by sphagnum only Alauda arvensis was main specis. In western and eastern parts of the moor low shrubs are dominant plants and main bird species were grassland birds such as Gallinago hardwickii, Acrocephalus bistrigiceps, Luscinia calliope, Saxicola torquatus, Emberiza aureola. In forests with small shallow lakes and grassland of Wakasakanai 40 species were recorded. In forest and agricultural lands of Maruyama 19 species were recorded. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
