The article "Back to the future of Primary Care" highlights the importance of recovering and contextualizing the knowledge and values of Primary Care (PC) to improve professional practice. It is mentioned that quality PC is effective, achieves better individual and community health outcomes, and ensures greater equity and sustainability of public health services. The coordination of primary care with other levels of care is also questioned. The importance of recovering and preserving aspects of primary care, such as the relationship between patients and their reference professionals and the comprehensive vision of the person, is emphasized. The theoretical framework developed by Barbara Starfield and her team at Johns Hopkins University is mentioned, which defines primary care as a mechanism to provide better health to populations and individuals, with equity in health and lower costs. The development of a test to evaluate the primary care character of practices and organizational proposals in primary care is proposed. The importance of adapting theoretical frameworks to specific contexts is emphasized, and tools such as primary care clinical knowledge, multidisciplinary teams, and care are mentioned. The article discusses proposals to improve primary care and its impact on equity and the health of vulnerable individuals. The impact of the proposals on human resources and the public health system is also examined. The importance of person-centered care is emphasized, and organizational changes to improve primary care are suggested. The article addresses the future of Primary Care (PC) and proposes looking to the past for innovation. It highlights the attributes described by Barbara Starfield, such as continuity of care and person-centered care. It also emphasizes the importance of the human relationship between professionals and patients, as exposed by Iona Heath. In addition, it mentions the inverse care law enunciated by Tudor Hart, which points out the need to counteract inequity in medical care. In summary, the importance of these theoretical frameworks to guide practice and research in PC is highlighted. The article proposes a primary care test to evaluate proposals for change in Primary Care (PC). The importance of the work of PC professionals is emphasized, the need to recover generalism, and reorganize teams taking into account theoretical frameworks. The importance of putting care at the center is emphasized. [Extracted from the article]
