The research is limited to studying the effect of geographical factors on the stability of the Northern Watercourse of Shatt -- al-Arab River because the factors of temperature, wind, wind direction, rain, and evaporation have a great effect on the stability of banks as to the forming of cracks in the earth, the generating of water waves that destroy the banks and form hollows and water gullies deeper than 50 cm, and the dryness of earth and its cracking because of the increase of evaporation in the area, which is attributed to human factors like agricultural activities on the banks of the river, digging of streams and irrigation tunnels, and raising of animals on the shoulders and banks of the river. All these factors made the banks of the watercourse vulnerable to destruction. Industrial activities like building liquefaction stations and extending water pipes by splitting the shoulders and banks of the river also affect the stability of the banks of the river in the area of the study. the research has also analyzed the characteristic of the consistency of banks and their relation to the earth's density, humidity content, and porousness to know the degree of predicting the downfall by measuring the codification of the downfall prediction. The figures and curves show the degree of predicting downfall in the area of study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
