An Analysis on Sustainable Development Approach of Ecology-Themed Expos: Milan and Antalya Expo.

Expos are common urban platforms that are considered globally important due to their search for answers to problems of the cities in the World. The ecology theme, which is the theme of the expos due to increasing environmental problems in recent years, brought the sustainability of these activity spaces to agenda. In 20th century expos, it is seen that the interaction of these architectural structures with the city, which was built for the expo, continued after expo and was inherited. The aim of this article is to create a theoretical conceptual basis within the framework of the analysis and design of certain criteria in the design of exhibition with a sustainable perspective. The article is based on the hypothesis that architecture should also be sustainable for eco-exhibitions. As a method, the thematic, spatial and social approaches of two different expos organized in Turkey and abroad, whose common themes are ecology, were compared on sustainable development approach by making content analysis. Findings from Milan Expo and Antalya Expo descriptive case studies are expected to guide urban designs on similar topics. It has been concluded that the expos will be more sustainable if the architectural design overlaps with the ultimate life, leaves the city with not waste but symbolic structures, protecting the natural environment, realizing the efforts to increase greenness, and contributing to the design of the city in accordance with future projection. Expolar, dünyanın tüm ülkelerini ilgilendiren sorunlara yanıt aramaları sebebiyle küresel ölçekte önemli sayılan ortak kentsel platformlardır. Son yıllarda giderek artan çevre problemleri sebebiyle expolara tema olan ekoloji konusu, sergi ve etkinlik mekanlarının da sürdürülebilir mekanlar olmasını gündeme getirmiştir. 20.yüzyıl expolarında inşa edilen bu mekânların kentle ve ziyaretçiyle etkileşiminin expo sonrasında da devam ettiği ve kente miras kaldığı görülmektedir. Bu makalenin amacı; expoların sürdürülebilir bir bakış açısıyla tasarlanmasında belli kriterlerin oluşturulması ve yapılacak analizler çerçevesinde teorik bir kavramsal altlık oluşturularak söz konusu kentsel alanların planlanmasının önemini vurgulamaktır. Makale "ekoloji temelli expoların mimari yaklaşımı sürdürülebilir olmalıdır" hipotezine dayanmaktadır. Yöntem olarak ortak temaları ekoloji olan yurt içinde ve yurt dışında düzenlenen iki farklı exponun sürdürülebilir kalkınmaya dayalı tematik, mekânsal ve sosyal yaklaşımları içerik analizi yapılarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Milano Expo ve Antalya Expo örnek çalışma alanlarının betimsel analizlerinden elde edilen bulguların, benzer konularda yürütülecek kentsel mekân tasarımları için yol gösterici olması beklenmektedir. Sürdürülebilir expo tasarımlarının, mimari tasarımın nihai yaşamla örtüşmesi, kente atık değil simge yapılar bırakması, doğal çevrenin korunması, yeşilin arttırılma çabalarının gerçekleştirilmesi, kentin gelecek projeksiyonuna uygun bir biçimde tasarlanmasına katkıda bulunması ile sağlanacağı sonucuna varılmıştır.
