HİSTORICAL BACKGROUND OF OPPOSITION OF THE WRITING OF HADITHS.

The issue of kitābat al-hadīth, which is shaped around the narrations conveyed from the Prophet Muhammad regarding whether the hadiths were written or not, has been one of the most debated issues in the field of hadith studies. Although it has been a subject of debate since the early periods of the history of hadith, the issues related to the historical background of the opposition to kitabat, which continued until the end of the second century of Hijri, have mostly failed to go beyond repetition. There are many philological, psychological, cultural and sociological reasons for this opposition beyond the narrations attributed to the Prophet. So, this study aims to address these reasons based on the narrations related to the subject. As far as we could observe, the reasons behind the opposition to kitabat, which continued until the end of the second century of Hijri, include the predominance of oral culture, the fact that the Arabic script was unable to transfer information from written documents and therefore oral culture was considered more reliable, the concern that unqualified people might be more engaged in the narration of hadith and might transmit hadiths in a way that was not in accordance with the original, and the concern that personal opinions would be narrated in writing. Hadislerin yazılıp yazılmadığına yönelik Hz. Peygamber'den nakledilen rivâyetler etrafında şekillenen kitâbetü'l-hadîs meselesi, hadis ilmi içerisinde en fazla tartışılan hususlardan biri olmuştur. Hadis tarihinin ilk dönemlerinden itibaren tartışma konusu olmasına rağmen hicrî ikinci asrın sonlarına kadar devam eden kitâbet karşıtlığının tarihsel arka planına ilişkin dile getirilen hususlar genelde tekrardan öteye geçememiştir. Bu karşıtlığın, Hz. Peygamber'e atfedilen rivâyetlerin ötesinde filolojik, psikolojik, kültürel ve sosyolojik birçok nedeni bulunmaktadır. İşte bu çalışma söz konusu nedenleri konu ile ilgili rivâyetlerden yola çıkarak ele almayı hedeflemektedir. Görebildiğimiz kadarıyla hicrî ikinci asrın sonlarına kadar devam eden kitâbet karşıtlığının arka planında sözlü kültürün son derece baskın olması, Arap yazısının yazılı vesikalardan bilgiyi aktarabilmek için yeterli düzeye gelmemesi ve bu nedenle sözlü kültürün daha güvenilir görülmesi, ehliyetsiz kimselerin hadis rivâyetiyle daha fazla meşgul olabileceği ve hadisleri aslına uygun olmayan bir şekilde nakledebileceği endişesi ve kişisel görüşlerin yazı ile rivâyetleşmesi endişesi gibi nedenler bulunmaktadır.
