Migration in Mexico, a national security issue?

In Mexico, the phenomenon of irregular migration has gained strength in recent years, reinforcing in the public discourse a position of defense of the human rights of people in the context of mobility and at the same time, implementing a policy of containment justified in the idea of national security. Given this scenario, it is worth asking: what are the consequences of defining migration as a matter of national security and what implications does it generate for the migrants? These are some of the questions that I will address in this text, in which we start from the premise that defining migration as a matter of national security entails violations of the rights of migrants. The general objective of the work is to analyze the consequences of defining migration as a matter of national security from a poststructuralist epistemological perspective and an analysissynthesis methodology with an analytical and descriptive approach. En México el fenómeno de la migración irregular ha cobrado fuerzas en los últimos años, reforzándose en el discurso público un posicionamiento de defensa a los derechos humanos de las personas en contexto de movilidad y a la par, implementándose una política de contención justificada en la idea de la seguridad nacional. Ante este escenario, cabe preguntarse: ¿qué consecuencias genera definir la migración como un asunto de seguridad nacional y qué implicaciones tiene para los migrantes? Estas son algunas de las interrogantes que abordaré en el presente texto, en el cual parto de la premisa que definir la migración como un asunto de seguridad nacional trae aparejado violaciones a los derechos de las personas migrantes. El objetivo general del trabajo es analizar la migración como un asunto de seguridad nacional desde una perspectiva epistemológica posestructuralista y una metodología de análisis-síntesis con un enfoque analítico y descriptivo.
