      Dental trauma is considered a highly prevalent oral health problem in school environments, with the teacher being one of the main responsible for the first care provided. Based on these aspects, this study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge and safety of elementary school teachers from municipal and private schools in Lavras-MG, to deal with dental trauma in a school environment. Data were collected through questionnaires applied to elementary school teachers from the 1st to the 9th grade. The sample consisted of 104 elementary school teachers from private and municipal schools. These teachers answered a questionnaire, which firstly evaluated the participant's profile and, in a second part, evaluated their knowledge about dental trauma. The data obtained were submitted to a descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that the training level of most participants was specialization (56.7%) and the time of professional experience predominated between 21-25 years (24.0%). In addition, 86.5% of the participants said they did not feel prepared to help a student who had suffered dental trauma. Considering the results obtained, it can be concluded that most teachers have insufficient knowledge about dental trauma, and consequently do not know how to proceed in emergency cases. It is suggested to carry out educational approaches, with these professionals to favor the success of the treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
