      Most tenants in New York's cities live in apartments that belong to large real estate portfolios, but the real estate industry was able to argue that so-called mom-and-pop landlords would be victimized. The U.S. Supreme Court understandably has taken up most of the public's attention lately, but a New York judge made a consequential decision last month that will affect thousands of state residents. Judge Christina Ryba of state Supreme Court in Albany struck down that city's "good cause" eviction law, siding with landlords who argued the tenant protection violated state law.
