Una conmemoración necesaria. (Spanish)

Introduction: on July 31, 2020, it was sixty years since the inauguration, by the then Minister of Public Health of Cuba, Dr. José Ramón Machado Ventura, of the Provincial Pediatric Hospital "José Luis Miranda". Objective: to summarize aspects related to the history of the hospital. Method: a bibliographic review was carried out including articles published in local media, original documents from the hospital and personal interviews. Development: the hospital started with only 120 beds and 28 doctors and its first director was Dr. Carlos Martínez Reyes, an outstanding revolutionary doctor and combatant of the 26th of July Movement. In the following years it gradually increased its services and assistance tasks. Conclusions: it is necessary to increase the interrelation between the institution and the community organizations and to prosper in the adequate treatment of admitted children and their relatives. The younger ones are nurtured by the experience accumulated by those with more years of work, but all with the same goal: to maintain the emblem of Cuban Pediatrics: "nothing is more important than a child". Introducción: el 31 de julio del año 2020 se cumplieron sesenta años de la inauguración, por el entonces Ministro de Salud Pública de Cuba, Dr. José Ramón Machado Ventura, del Hospital Pediátrico Provincial "José Luis Miranda". Objetivo: resumir aspectos relacionados con la historia del hospital. Método: se realizó una revisión bibliográfica que incluyó artículos publicados en medios locales, documentos originales del hospital y entrevistas personales. Desarrollo: el hospital se inició con solo 120 camas y 28 médicos y su primer director fue el Dr. Carlos Martínez Reyes, destacado médico revolucionario y combatiente del Movimiento 26 de julio. En los años posteriores aumentó paulatinamente sus servicios y las tareas asistenciales. Conclusiones: es necesario aumentar la interrelación entre la institución y los organismos de la comunidad y prosperar en el adecuado trato a niños ingresados y sus familiares. Los más jóvenes se nutren de la experiencia acumulada por los de más años de labor, pero todos con un mismo fin: mantener el emblema de la Pediatría cubana: "nada es más importante que un niño."
