Concordance of the maxillary and mandibular arch shape. (English)

Objective. To determine the concordance of the shape of the dental arch of the maxilla with the mandible. Material and methods. The study universe was 780 models of orthodontic pretreatment of the orthodotic specialty of the Universidad Autonoma de Nayarit from 2015 to 2019. The sample size was 190 study models. Data collection was done on record sheets, tabulated in the program Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and the Kappa test was performed on the calculator in Excel for the Index of Kappa-Fisterra. Results. the arch form that appeared in the highest percentage was the ovoid in both the maxilla and the mandible. The triangular arch shape was the one found in the lowest percentage, but in the jaw it was presented in the highest percentage. In 70% of the patients the maxillary and mandible arch shape coincided, finding a good concordance force. Conclusion. The ovoid arch shape was the most common. Although the strength of agreement between both arcs is good, it does not always coincide. In the cases that did not match, four different combinations were found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetivo. Determinar la concordancia de la forma de arco dental del maxilar con la mandíbula. Material y métodos. El universo de estudio fue de 780 modelos pretratamiento de ortodoncia de la especialidad de ortodoncia de la Universidad Autónoma de Nayarit de 2015 a 2019. El tamaño de la muestra fue de 190 modelos de estudio. La recolección de datos se hizo en hojas de registro, se tabularon en el programa Microsoft Office Excel 2007 y la prueba de Kappa se realizó en la calculadora en Excel para el Índice de Kappa-Fisterra. Resultados. La forma de arco que se presentó en mayor porcentaje fue la ovoide, tanto en el maxilar como en la mandíbula. La forma de arco triangular fue la que se halló en menor porcentaje, pero en la mandíbula se mostró en mayor porcentaje. En el 70% de los pacientes coincidió la forma de arco maxilar y mandibular, encontrando una fuerza de concordancia buena. Conclusión. La forma de arco ovoide fue la más común. Aunque la fuerza de concordancia entre ambos arcos es buena, no siempre coincide. En los casos que no coincidieron se encontraron cuatro combinaciones diferentes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
