- نبذة مختصرة :
The research aims to uncover the phenomenon of acid rain in Basra Governorate, as it suffers from high levels of air pollution as a result of the expansion of the oil industries and industries that depend on very large sources of burning fossil fuels, specifically the electrical industries. The 2016/2017 rainy season was chosen as a model for the study. The governorate was completely covered, the first was on November 30 and December 1, 2016 and the second on March 23-24 2017 at 30 sites and rain pools were installed in them. The results of the analysis of rain samples revealed a decrease in the pH values of pH below 5.6 for both observations, especially in areas close to Oil production fields in the districts of Al-Zubayr, Madinah, Qurna, Siba district, and some areas close to electric power plants, such as Al Harath and Maqal sub-regions. The first samples also recorded pH values less than the first monitoring, being the first rain showers for the season, which helped dissolve sulfur oxides of So4 and nitrate No3 in the atmosphere that circulate. High concentrations exceeded 45 mg / liter -1, while high concentrations of sulfur oxides were recorded for more than 150 mg / liter, which is It resulted mainly from the burning of oil and gas associated with it, and the rest of Basra's regions recorded values that exceeded the acid value, but some were close to the acidic characteristic, indicating a clear change in the chemical properties of rain fall towards the characteristic of acid rain.
