      The article focuses on a statement by Neuraminidase Inhibitor Susceptibility Network (NISN) on antiviral resistance in influenza viruses. The principal concerns about emergence of antiviral resistance are loss of drug efficacy, spread of resistant variants and possible increased virulence or transmissibility of resistant variants. The members of the NISN, which was established in 1999 to conduct surveillance for and address the regulatory and public health concerns of antiviral resistance in influenza viruses presents summary of available data relevant to the emergence and potential clinical importance of antiviral resistance to the neuraminidase inhibitors (oseltamivir, zanamivir) and M2 ion channel inhibitors (amantadine, rimantadine).
