ANALYSIS OF KAYSERİ CUMHURİYET SQUARE IN THE CONTEXT OF CRITERIA THAT PROVIDE INTEGRITY.

The relationship of the square with the city is a question that is constantly questioned and discussed. In order to determine what features a square should have, its location in the city must first be questioned. When the relation between the city and the square is taken from a holistic perspective, the properties that the squares should have are determined. The purpose of this study is to determine the general criteria that provide integrity and to demonstrate how the square should be applied according to these criteria through an example. As method of this study, the criteria that a square must possess have been determined with conceptual studies and taking the place examinations in today's conditions. Kayseri Cumhuriyet Square was examined according to the criteria determined within the scope of this study. Throughout the study process, the square as an urban public space, was questioned. While the squares were associated with the bazaar, commerce, religion, politics and social life in the past, nowadays, have associated with transportation, traffic, speed. Cumhuriyet Square, which is seen as a public space in the city, is not seen as a place where people socialize with new regulations. Kent ile meydan ilişkisi sürekli sorgulanan ve tartışılan bir konudur. Bir meydanın hangi özelliklere sahip olması gerektiğinin belirlenmesi için öncelikle kent içerisindeki yeri sorgulanmalıdır. Kent ile meydan ilişkisi bütünsel bir bakış açısıyla ele alındığı zaman meydanların sahip olması gereken özellikler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı kent içerisindeki meydanların bütünselliğini sağlayan genel kriterleri belirlemek ve bir örnek üzerinden bu kriterlere göre meydanın nasıl olması gerektiğini uygulamalı olarak ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma yöntemi olarak günümüz koşullarında kavramsal çalışmaların sonucunda ve yerinde incelemelerle bir meydanın sahip olması gereken kriterler belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışma kapsamında belirlenen kriterlere göre Kayseri Cumhuriyet Meydanı incelenmiştir. Çalışma süreci boyunca kentsel kamusal mekan olan meydan olgusu sorgulanmıştır. Meydanlar geçmişte çarşı, ticaret, din, siyaset, sosyal hayatla ilişkilendirilirken günümüzde ulaşım, trafik, hızla ilişkilendirilmektedir. Kent içerisinde kamusal mekan olarak görülen Cumhuriyet Meydanı yeni düzenlemelerle insanların vakit geçirdiği sosyalleştiği bir yer olarak görülmemektedir. Meydanların nasıl bir süreçten geçerek günümüzdeki durumuna geldiği konusu ayrıca merak edilmiştir. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
