While countries such as Canada are strengthening regulations aimed at limiting ultraviolet radiation exposure to users of indoor tanning facilities, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not passed comprehensive legislation to discourage exposure to artificial ultraviolet light. The Canadian regulations, which passed in mid-March, were revisions of regulations that had been drafted in 1980. The new guidelines suggest a recommended exposure time for the first exposure, with a dosage of 100 J⁄m2. The regulations also require disclosure of the manufacturer of the recommended number of exposure times per year based on a maximum dose of 15 kJ⁄m2.
