The Correlation Between Malay Genome Project with Aqeedah.

Malay Genome Project (MGP) is a Malay-genome related research which has been pioneered by two public universities in Malaysia namely Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). It mainly focuses on the production of pharmaceutical products and identification of the origin of Malays. Although it is beneficial indeed to the Malay community as a whole, this research is still bound by rules of scientific ethics and the values of humanity particularly related to law and religion. Therefore, the aims of this study were to elaborate on the theoretical framework and to identify the relationship between MGP and the Islamic 'Aqeedah (faith) so that the Islamic 'Aqeedah-Compliant Index (IACI) is possible to be developed and will act as a "second filter" after the scientific ethics. This study involved both qualitative and quantitative methods, in which case it is typically referred to as Exploratory Sequential Mixed Method. Further, IBM SPSS 21.0 software was used to analyze the questionnaires administered to academics from selected public universities in Malaysia. The results revealed that there was a positive relationship between the variables (p-value < 0.05) i.e. firstly, MGP and Islamic 'Aqeedah (0.403), secondly, Islamic 'Aqeedah and IACI (0.639) and thirdly, MGP and IACI (0.304). Therefore, integrating MGP and Islamic faith is seen capable of producing scientific discoveries that is in line with Islamic teachings and at the same time to provide added value to the existing body of knowledge.
