      The purpose of the article is to make an exploratory study of National Archives to ascertain what materials they contain of interest to social sciences and what are the facilities and difficulties involved in working with these archival materials. Large amounts are to be found in historical societies, state and local archives, ports of entry, etc. Papers so retained may not be the most recent and active, although that is the commonest arrangement. Definition of archives is fairly descriptive of its own materials.
